Let us have a look at the playing XI for the fifth test.
India XI - Murali Vijay, Gautam Gambhir, MS Dhoni, R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Stuart Binny and Varun Aaron.
England XI - Cook, Robson, Bell, Root, Ballance, Buttler, Woakes, Broad, Jordan, Anderson and Moeen Ali.
India has pitched in a strong line up with a "better" bowling line up this time. Although Ashwin hasn't provided too many breakthroughs but he is excellent with bat and can contain batsman at one end. Bhuvaneshwar hardly bowls a bad ball. Ishant was exceptionally well with his man of the match performance at the historic Lord's win! Stuart Binny has to prove his worth but he can come in handly with his swingers and bat. Varun Aaron is really quick and Broad's broken nose tells the story about it.
Batting wise only Murali Vijay, Ajinkya Rahane and Dhoni have consistently clicked so far. A lot was expected from Kohi and Pujara and they haven't performed to their potential. As cricket experts keep saying, if these two click; they can give nightmares to English bowlers. Let us hope the experience of Gambhir fares well and he can score a decent knock.
For England, almost everything has gone their way after the Lord's loss. Anderson wasn't proved guilty in his infamous feud with Jadeja. He has been the trump card for England bowling. Broad who took loads of wickets in the last match broke his nose but would bravely play in 5th match with a face mask (speculated)! Moeen Ali took a lot of wickets and proved to be the only successful spinner this series. He has batted well too with the likes of Root and Bell. Ballance has scored runs whenever England needed and its a good sight to see Cook back in form.
With a green tinge of grass both the captains would have loved to bowl first. England does the honours to bowl first and put pressure on India with some early wickets. India would aim for a solid start. With an average first innings score of 350 odd runs at the Oval, India would aim atleast a 350 or 375 first innings total. That would be minimum for them to lay a solid platform. India would also aim some solid bowling performance from the quickies.
Just a debate in the end. Are Indian batsmen still the best players against spin? Well we would say it would be good for the visiting team if they don't get complacent against the likes of Moeen Ali. Here is the impact of Moeen Ali in this India vs England test series:
